i was having a meeting w/ChefEric when Conrad and Ryan dropped by otw to the MOCA.  while i thought it would be best to keep working, hitting up the exhibits was a refreshing break.

    follow the blue-tape

Conrad’s good friend Monica who’s local to the area joined as well!

    real recognize real

the MOCA consisted of two levels. the entry lobby level contained a book/ gift store. upstairs, the feature, “Las Vegas Studio”.  the exhibit was minimalistic containing vintage photagraphy, slides, and video of Las Vegas. before the corporate takeover.  the evolution of the desert.

    Monica, Conrad, Ryan

this exhibit had the most significance to Ryan because he just got accepted to graduate school.  great job brother. he picked up a book on “form/ function” for his personal collection that was coincidentally edited by one of his professors.

    on to the next one..

inspiration exists or can come from anywhere.  the awareness to keep inspired is the tricky thing.

The crew took a little trip to Hollywood/Beverly Hills to checkout the David Choe exhibit ‘Nothing to Declare.’ Real dope stuff here. Naked chicks, Bats, Whales and some real sick watercolor. Well done.

    Brainstorming at the office.

We headed over to the MOCA design center. Never been there but I was kind of disappointed. Vegas exhibit was OK. Expected a lot more even in the small gallery room.

Afterwards we went to the main attraction. The David Choe exhibit in Beverly Hills was a great place for inspiration. Mr Choe picture below has an interesting mind. (pic pulled from his blog)

One of my favorite pieces that sold for $25,000.

There was a big whale with tentacles in the middle of the floor. Price tag: $25,000.

This was a great piece as well of a girl in the back of a cab (?)

And heres the rest of his stuff. Price range from $5000- $100,000.

    MJ and Pee Wee.

My friend Monica liked her boots.

Afterwards we had dinner at Urth Cafe. We have heard that they shot a scene from Entourage here so I was already a fan.

Monica and Ryan both had the turkey burger.

I had the New Yorker pastrami panini. So good. mmmmmmm

Great day with great art, great food, and great friends.

It’s been awhile since I blogged on here so I wanted to share with you San Diego living. I have been out here for 6 years in San Diego and always forget that we are surrounded by beautiful beaches. Me and some of the guys wanted to take out our bikes and ride the boardwalk at Mission Beach and Pacific Beach.

Here are the riders: Yamz, Tony and Chris. No team name yet.

Here are some great pier housing you can rent at Pacific Beach.

Next time you find yourself near Pacific Beach drive you gotta hit up Big Kahunas where they have these incredible Hawaiian shaved ice with ice cream nicely hidden on the bottom. My combo today was strawberry shaved ice with vanilla ice cream as the filler.

After a long day of riding, we had to hit up DZ Adkins in La Mesa. Amazing Deli food with a menu of over 150 items.

Right before you head out there is an in-house bakery where you can pack a goto box of these fine goodies. this box cost me about $12.

a friend pulled some strings and treated the 2009 kitchen staff to the owner’s box!

    go Ducks!

my first hockey match and for me, it’s a total luxury to attend any sports event.

    Executive Chef Mark Bolton

Chef Mark and his wife are big Duck’s fans.  The box included some awesome seats right on the glass adjacent to one of the goals! Mark and wife took full advantage!

    Gino, Moises, and Jose-Luis

Gino makes a mean wrap, sandwich, or whatever you want!

    Moises, Maggie, Roberto, and Grayce

it was nice to hang out w/everyone outside of work and have a drink.

    time for another!

the view was amazing and the cool air was refreshing.

    sushipediaap

We came across this great iphone/ipod application that acts as an encyclopedia of sushi, hence the name sushipedia. This free ap allows you to look up different sushi terms and names of your favorite rolls. Displaying vibrant photography , Sushipedia shows general ingredients in a any roll along with its history and it even allows you to browse different attributes whether its raw, cooked, veggie and spicy. Want to get brave? Why not order the next random item that appears under the ‘I’m feeling lucky’ section. Imagine taking this on your next dinner outing and testing your favorite sushi chef’s knowledge. 5 out of 5 nigiri.
